Integrating Children with Challenges

The White Rose Family Foundation (WRFF) is a Registered Hong Kong Charity (Inland Revenue File No. 91-8085), it was started in 2006.

WRFF assists young individuals with challenges such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome, and ADHD to name a few, as well as providing support to their families.

WRFF seeks donations & other types of support from individuals and corporations in order to continue its work.

Our Recent Project – April 2010 to August 2011

The Directors of WRFF, Nicola Clark, Therese Bell and Karen Cole first heard about San Wui Commercial Society School (SWCSS) in April of 2010. The school had gained media attention over their plight of losing P1 classes due to a lack of student enrollments and money. They especially needed urgent fund raising and money in the bank to get permission from the Hong Kong Education (EDB) to continue as a school. The WRFF team felt that it was a cause worthy of support after also learning about the SWCSS ‘open door policy’  of accepting all children, regardless of their ethnic, financial, or educational backgrounds, WRFF wanted to see firsthand such an environment that accepts up to one third of its student body with special educational needs.

After just one visit with Principle Mr.Lui and several of the parents WRFF knew that SWCSS was indeed a very special place where all children were nurtured to their next level of education. WRFF could see how well San Wui fitted with WRFF’s like-minded philosophies on integrated education and socialization with typical mainstream students & learning challenged students.

WRFF assisted SWCSS to form an aggressive ‘fundraising campaign’, which was successful short term in achieving the reinstatement of the P1 class, as well as in gaining the funding needed to keep and even expand the school’s English program. Money was also raised to continue the employment of the Native English Teacher & the Teaching Assistants.

On-going fund raising is essential for SWCSS and WRFF is committed to a long term relationship with them to help achieve this.

SWCSS opened their doors to WRFF’s program to organize educational ‘After School Activities for Children & Teens with Learning Challenges’.

On 15 September 2010, WRFF commenced the first trial running of various activities. The response from parents has been extremely positive.

For many families of youngsters with special educational needs, having a safe after school place for their children to go to whilst their parents are at work is essential. Whenever funds are forthcoming WRFF is able to offer courses free of charge. For other courses minimal fees apply to pay for Course Teachers & Coaches.

WRFF organized these courses for challenged children & teens at SWCSS from April 2010 to August 2011, while always maintaining their office in Central.

Any new sponsorship of future activities will be posted on this website or feel free to contact us on info@whiterose.hk
